Fidel Castro died in 2016

He's dead again?

The dictator Fidel Castro died in November 2016. Many people claim to remember him dying long before that - are they experiencing the Mass Memory Discrepancy Effect? If so, it's rather ironic that the popular name for this is the Mandela Effect:  but for a quirk of historical timing, we could all be talking about the Castro Effect.

In any case, there are a few reports of his death coming as a surprise to people who thought he was already dead.

Being such a controversial figure, it's no surprise his every action be shrouded in mystery. He was the subject of multiple assassination attempts. At one point it's known he was very ill and a body double was used. The media may also have lied about his death in the past. Nevertheless, November 2016 seems to be the final one ... until the next time.

Fidel Castro was a lawyer when Batista siezed power in 1952, and led a group of revolutionaries who were very unhappy with his regime until his guerrilla army defeated  him and Castro himself became Prime Minister in 1959. He dismissed elections and remained in power unti his death.

The death of Castro had been a long anticipated event in the US, because, more so in the past, it was assumed it would bring about chaos in the short term and regime change at the least in the mid/long term. The USCoast Guard was expected to be on high alert for the expeced deluge of refugees, and Cuban exiles from returning. As it happened, in the invervening period rules were much more relaxed and access to the country was much easier than it used to be.

He is famous for the CIA's seven wierdest assaination attempts:

  1. Exploding cigar
  2. Hiring mob hitmen
  3. Bomb in a seaashell
  4. Poisoned diving suit
  5. Hired assassin lover
  6. Poisoned pen
  7. Sprayed with LSD

He's also made a famous quote:

I Won’t Die Until America is Destroyed

-- Fidel Castro

He died just as Donald Trump became the US president.
