Something to hide?
Remember Cinderella? Notice anything unusual about her - in particular, her ears? People are claiming they were never shown in the Disney cartoons, right up to the modern-day Wreck-it Ralph movie - which is all CGI.
In fact here ears weren't shown in earlier depictions of Cinderella, but it's was only really picked up since the Disney films, the first being in 1950.
Cinderela as a story, where the skills and talents of an unknown servant were suddenly brought to light by some wonderful event, can be traced back over 2,000 years.
Covered ears
Charles Robinson's "Cinderella in the Kitchen" from 1900 seem to have contributed to the trend:
Lost a slipper?
Anne Anderson painted Cindarella around the 1900's - can you see what the fuss is about?
Even when she was in rags, you never saw her ears
Once people notice, it seems more than a co-incidence. It was first picked up on Twitter, then went viral as everyone suddenly realised it's been true throughout not only all her cartoon depictions, but drawings illustrating the story before any animations existed. There's no explanation in her story for this, and it's not even mentioned. It seems they are always obscured by something much easier to draw, such as having her hair worn in a style which sweeps over them. The only theory put forwards is that of money, her ears being an extra detail that for time reasons was decoded to not need to draw for each frame, or in fact deliberately hide them, hoping no-one would notice. Which they hadn't, until now. The inclusion of them in the 3D model of her in the Wreck-It Ralph movie is supposedly a deliberate act aimed at assuaging all the concern the fans had up to this point.
